![]() It comes straight out of the desert lands to you sound system. Watch out for the giant warriors – if you don’t have a good ranged attack, they will do some serious damage to you!Īnyway, the theme is pretty soothing and trance-like, with a great drumbeat and accompanying percussion coupled with an atmospheric blast of guitars and synth line that floods the room with a waterfall of sound. The Moors constructed a castle made of sand in their desert land (apparently by using plastic toy shovels) and the crusading knights must take the fortress in their quest to reclaim the kindapped princesses. “Sand Castle” is the theme of the…well…sand castle stage. Today’s is one that you may not have heard too often, the “Sand Castle” theme by indy game master-composer Will Stamper ( Gish, Closure).Ĭastle Crashers – “Sand Castle” (Will Stamper) So Castle Crashers has such an awesome soundtrack that it deserves more than one Daily. Great stuff for fighting shuffling zombies and black knights. Each instrument adds another layer to the piece until one minute in when the exotic bongo beat rises from the bubbling muck like the sloshing feet of the undead, until it rises to a chanting height for the final 30 seconds. The track simply seems to ooze mist and creatures of the dark places. A deep, moaning strings section opens the track, over which is quickly layered a haunting music-box piano and atmospheric percussion from snake rattles and cymbal scrapes. “Swampland” is the kind of gloomy, oppressive stuff you’d expect to find in a zombie hideaway. In any event, the version uploaded here is actually a looped version of the original (which you can get off of Waterflame’s Newgrounds page).Ĭastle Crashers – “Swampland” (Waterflame) The other interesting thing is the tracks just don’t loop very well in-game, as they contain a very short (but noticeable) audio gap (something that I think could have easily been remedied by deleting a half-second of silence at the end of each track). Waterflame, a Norwegian composer, contributed several pieces, including “Space Pirates”, the forest theme, but I think this is the best piece he contributed. ![]() The Castle Crashers soundtrack was very interesting in that the majority of the songs were already written by artists on Newgrounds. Anyway, “Swampland” from Castle Crashers is a nice ‘zombie invasion’ theme to fit this time of year. So I always thought The Behemoth made the amazing soundtrack for this game, but it turns out Newgrounds was the one who made it! Newgrounds is an American online entertainment and social media website and company, whose site hosts user-generated content such as games, movies, audio, and artwork in four respective site "portals".I’m a fairly big fan of Castle Crashers (probably why there’s a few tracks from it on this blog…) and when I was looking for a zombie track to put up, I realized that a) I’d already used music from WarCraft III and b) I’m not familiar with the Resident Evil soundtracks (nor do I yet have the soundtrack to ZombieSmash…maybe if it was in FLAC…). The song continues with the super cool beats and bass notes, and ultimately ends with just "wind" sounds, conveying that peace after a battle but also reiterating the barrenness of this world. To me, the violin represents the knights' burning passion for justice which keeps them warm through this blizzard and pushes them to keep going and take down their enemies. I like that the synth sounds come back for 4 seconds at 1:17 to set up the violin to takeover the melody (and dat violin tho). At 0:23, the airy synth background sounds are replaced by the melody, accompanied by supporting bass notes a little later. ![]() The really cool baseline starts at 0:13 as you regain your determination and confidence in conquering this ice world. This feeling is conveyed within the first few seconds of the song, with that drum beat and slight echo, followed by the synthesizer and the light notes in the background acting like bird calls in the distance. You (and your comrades) are alone and afraid in this total wasteland, with the harsh cold wind blowing in your faces and you can't see very far because it's not just snowing, it's a blizzard. There's no twinkly lights or warm campfires. In Castle Crashers, the snow world is a brutal, hostile environment. When I think of other games' snow worlds (like Mario or Banjo-Kazooie), they're typically pretty jolly and Christmas-y, with peaceful happy music. I'd say this song captures the atmosphere of this particular snow world extremely well. In this stage, there are Iceskimos that will throw snowballs at you from behind snow forts. ![]() It's the second last Chapter in the game so it's pretty far along. This song can be heard in Chapter 11 in Snow World, which is Stage 32 in the game. ![]()
